I've been playing Genshin Impact since launch, and I've 100% explored every region three times across two different accounts, so I've spent countless hours hunting down every hidden chest and easter egg in Teyvat. When I first saw the hint about the place where winds meet China in a random Liyue world quest, I spent almost three hours running back and forth between Mondstadt's Stormbearer Mountains and Liyue's Guili Plains before I finally stumbled on the right spot. I lost count of how many hilichurl camps I cleared that day for no reason, so I made this guide to make sure you don't make the same mistake I did. This spot is one of the most underrated hidden areas in Liyue, and the rewards you get here are well worth the 15 minutes it takes to complete all associated content.
Where Winds Meet China: Exact Map Location and How to Get There
This hidden spot sits right on the official border between Mondstadt and Liyue, directly north of Wangshu Inn and overlooking Dihua Marsh to the south. If you use in-game map coordinates, it falls around x:271, y:169, on a flat cliff edge lined with windwheel asters (a flower that only grows in high anemo energy areas) and three small anemo monuments arranged in a triangle. You'll know you're in the right place when you hear a mix of Mondstadt's soft wind chime sound effects and Liyue's deep stone bell ambient audio mixing together.
The easiest way to reach the spot is to glide directly from the highest observation deck of Wangshu Inn. The glide takes less than two minutes, and you won't have to fight any enemies or climb steep cliffs along the way. Don't forget to equip an anemo character before you head to this spot, because you'll need to activate the three anemo monuments to unlock the first set of rewards. If you don't have any anemo characters leveled, you can always join a co-op game with a friend who has a Venti, Jean, or Wanderer on their team to help you activate the monuments.
You can also reach the spot by teleporting to the waypoint north of Dihua Marsh and climbing up the cliff, but that route takes three times longer and you'll run into a handful of level 70 geo slimes along the way that will slow you down. I'd only recommend that route if you're also farming slime condensate for character ascensions at the same time.
Hidden Rewards You Can Unlock at This Liyue Border Spot
Most players only find the basic common chest next to the anemo monuments and leave, but there are way more rewards hidden here if you take the time to complete the associated short quest and explore the surrounding area. All the rewards combined take less than 15 minutes to collect, and the return on your time is way better than grinding most daily commissions. Here's a full breakdown of everything you can get:
- 2 luxurious chests and 3 exquisite chests, totaling 120 primogems, 20,000 mora, and multiple enhancement ores when opened
- A hidden lore scroll that reveals the backstory of Rex Lapis' early border patrols across Liyue after the Archon War
- 3 chunks of cor lapis and 2 violetgrass, perfect for ascending Liyue characters like Zhongli, Hu Tao, and Xiao
- A hidden achievement called "Wind Meets the Rock" that gives an extra 5 primogems and 100 adventure rank experience
You can only unlock the luxurious chests if you complete the short hidden world quest tied to the spot first, so don't rush off after activating the monuments. To trigger the quest, look for a wounded NPC named Old Cui hiding behind a large rock on the west side of the cliff. He'll ask you to clear three small hilichurl camps scattered within 100 meters of the spot. The camps only have level 80 enemies, so most players with a well-leveled party can clear them in 5 minutes or less. Once you turn the quest in to Old Cui, he'll hand you the key to unlock the two luxurious chests next to the anemo monuments.
I used the primogems I got from this spot on my first account to pull my first Thoma constellation, so I'm still pretty fond of this little hidden area. The lore scroll is also a great find if you're a fan of Genshin's deep worldbuilding, since it gives details about the Archon War that you won't find in any of the main story quests.
Common Mistakes to Avoid When Visiting This Spot
I've brought dozens of friends and co-op teammates to this spot over the years, and I've seen the same mistakes pop up over and over again. Avoid these missteps, and you'll be able to collect all the rewards in one quick trip without wasting time.
The most common mistake is forgetting to check the small cave behind the waterfall right next to the cliff edge. There's a hidden exquisite chest behind the waterfall that most players miss entirely, since it's hidden behind thick mist that makes the cave hard to see from the main cliff area. All you have to do is walk through the waterfall, and the chest will be sitting right in front of you next to a small pile of cor lapis.
Another mistake players make is leaving before interacting with the stone tablet next to the anemo monuments. Interacting with the tablet is what triggers the "Wind Meets the Rock" achievement and gives you the hidden lore scroll, so if you skip that step you'll miss out on both rewards. The tablet is carved with both Liyue and Mondstadt script, which is a small detail that most people don't notice unless they look closely.
If you're a newer player with mostly level 50 or lower characters, don't try to clear the hilichurl camps alone. The enemies are level 80, and they have a few cryo hilichurl shamans that can freeze you and take out your whole party quickly if you're underleveled. Just join a co-op game and ask a higher level player to help you out, most people are happy to stop by and help for a couple of minutes. I've helped more than 20 new players clear these camps, and I never mind taking the time to do it.
Lore Easter Eggs Tied to This Liyue Border Spot
A lot of players don't realize that many of Genshin's hidden spots are references to real-world locations in China, and this one is no exception. The real-world area where winds meet China is a well-known meteorological spot in the Qinling Mountains, where cold northern winds and warm southern winds collide to create the country's distinct north-south climate divide. The devs did a really cool job translating that real-world feature into the game, right down to the way the wind sounds different here than it does in other parts of Liyue or Mondstadt.
You can even trigger a small voice line from Xiao if you have him in your party when you visit the spot, he'll mention that he used to patrol this border regularly to keep demons from crossing into Liyue after the Archon War. The voice line only plays once per account, so if you're a Xiao fan you won't want to miss it. I have Xiao as my main DPS, so I was really excited when I stumbled on that little detail the first time I visited the spot.
If you visit during the annual Lantern Rite event, the area gets a special temporary makeover too. During the Lantern Rite event, this spot gets a special decoration of glowing lanterns strung between the cliffs, and you can find a limited-time mini quest here too. The mini quest only takes 5 minutes to complete, and it gives you 30 extra primogems and a special lantern that you can place in your serenitea pot. I still visit this spot every time Lantern Rite rolls around, just to see the lanterns and take screenshots of the view across Dihua Marsh.
You can also find a small group of wind sprites floating near the cliff edge if you visit on a clear day. If you follow them for a minute, they'll lead you to a small floating island 100 meters above the cliff that has an extra common chest and a couple of windwheel asters. It's a tiny detail, but it's the kind of small touch that makes Genshin's open world feel so alive and worth exploring.
Next time you're grinding for Liyue exploration percentage or just looking for extra primogems to pull for your favorite character, make a point to stop by the spot where winds meet China. It's one of the most underrated hidden spots in the entire game, and the rewards and lore you get there make it well worth the short trip. I still visit this spot every few months just to listen to the mixed ambient sounds and look out over the border between the two regions. It's small details like this that keep me coming back to Genshin Impact even after years of playing.
