Easy Guide: Where Winds Meet Chai Jiudui Exact Location & Hidden Rewards

If you’ve spent any amount of time wandering the misty peaks of Chenyu Vale, you’ve probably come across random NPC mentions or weathered stone inscriptions referencing where winds meet Chai Jiudui. It’s one of the most underrated hidden spots in all of Liyue, and most players walk right past it without noticing, even if they’re grinding for 100% exploration completion. Unlike most side quests, it has no map marker, no automatic quest notification, and no obvious clues unless you’re specifically looking for it. This guide will walk you through exactly how to find the spot, what to do when you get there, and how to claim every hidden reward tied to it.

Where Winds Meet Chai Jiudui: Exact Map Coordinates & How to Reach It

This hidden spot sits on the northern edge of Chenyu Vale, right on the invisible border between the region and Qingce Village. You won’t find it marked on any official in-game map, but it’s easy to get to once you know the right starting point. Begin at the highest waypoint on Mt. Lingmeng, the snow-dusted peak at the northwest corner of Chenyu Vale. Face north, and jump off the cliff to glide straight ahead for roughly 12 seconds. If you pass a group of hilichurls guarding a crateful of tea leaves, you've gone too far east, so turn back 20 meters to find the clearing.

You’ll know you’re in the right place when you hear soft wind chimes playing, even if there’s no obvious source for the sound. The clearing is small, with three twisted pine trees, a weathered stone tea table, and an old man sitting on a wooden stool facing the valley. That’s Chai Jiudui, the retired herbalist who’s made this spot his permanent tea station. You might have seen his name mentioned in letters scattered around other Chenyu Vale quest spots, but this is the only place you’ll find him in person.

Don’t worry if you’re still early in your Chenyu Vale playthrough. The path to this spot has no blocked routes, no required quest prerequisites to access, and no high-level enemies guarding it. Even players at adventure rank 30 can reach it without any trouble, as long as they’ve unlocked the Mt. Lingmeng waypoint first.

What to Do When You Arrive at the Spot

When you first walk up to Chai Jiudui, he won’t have the usual blue exclamation mark over his head that signals a quest. You have to initiate the conversation yourself to trigger the short request. He’ll complain that the crosswinds coming off the mountain keep blowing his dried tea leaves off the table, ruining batches he’s spent days preparing. He’ll ask if you can help him set up temporary wind barriers to block the gusts. You don't need any specific items or character elements to complete this request, so you can do it as soon as you unlock Chenyu Vale.

The barriers are activated by three small stone markers hidden around the clearing, and you have to activate them in the right order for the spell to work. If you activate them out of order, nothing will happen, and you’ll have to start over. The correct order is:

  • Interact with the stone marker on the west side of the clearing first, it's partially hidden under a thick pile of pine needles at the base of the largest pine tree
  • Activate the east marker next, which is tucked between two small grey boulders right next to the path leading down to the valley
  • Finish with the north marker, which sits right on the edge of the cliff overlooking Qingce Village, partially covered by a patch of qingxin flowers

Once you activate all three markers in order, you’ll see a faint blue bubble form around the tea table, blocking all the wind. Chai Jiudui will cheer, and start pouring you a cup of tea as a thank you. The whole interaction takes less than two minutes, even if you fumble a little trying to find the markers.

All Hidden Rewards Unlocked for Completing This Request

Most players are shocked by how many rewards are tied to such a short, unmarked quest. The first reward you’ll get immediately after finishing the barrier setup is a luxury chest that spawns right next to the tea table. It contains 10 primogems, 3 Hero’s Wit, 20,000 mora, and a random 5-star artifact from the Emblem of Severed Fate or Tenacity of the Millelith sets, depending on your world level. That’s a way better reward than most short world quests give you, especially for such a small time investment.

You’ll also unlock a hidden achievement called “Tea in the Wind” as soon as you open the chest, which gives you an extra 5 primogems. That’s 15 total primogems for two minutes of work, which adds up if you’re saving up for a limited banner character. Many players miss the follow-up reward because they don't return to the spot after completing the initial quest, so mark the location on your map once you find it.

If you come back to the spot three in-game days after finishing the quest, Chai Jiudui will have a special gift for you: a jar of his homemade mountain wind tea. This consumable gives your entire party a 15% attack boost for 30 minutes, and it stacks with other food buffs like adeptus’ temptation. It’s perfect for tough boss fights or spiral abyss runs, and you can only get it from this specific quest. Completing this quest also adds 0.3% to your Chenyu Vale exploration progress, so if you’re stuck at 99% and can’t find the last missing spot, this is almost certainly what you’re missing.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Looking for This Spot

Even with clear directions, a lot of players run into issues trying to find and complete this quest, usually because they make small, easily avoidable mistakes. The most common mistake is confusing this spot with the other tea seller NPC near the Chasm border, who sells jasmine tea for 1,000 mora a cup. That NPC is not Chai Jiudui, and that spot has no hidden quest, so don’t waste your time heading south if you can’t find the clearing north of Mt. Lingmeng.

Another common mistake is playing with in-game audio turned all the way down. The wind chime audio cue is the easiest way to tell you’re close to the spot, and you’ll probably miss it completely if you’re playing with no sound. Turn your music and sound effects up just a little when you’re searching, and you’ll find the spot way faster. If you're playing co-op, only the host can trigger the quest, so if you're joining a friend's world, ask them to interact with Chai Jiudui first if you want to complete the quest too.

Some players also try to use anemo characters to blow the wind away from the table instead of activating the stone markers. That doesn’t work, no matter which anemo character you use or how many times you use their skill. You have to activate the three markers in order to trigger the quest completion. You don't need to finish the main Chenyu Vale archon quest to access this spot, so you can go get the rewards as soon as you unlock the region's waypoints. You don’t even have to talk to any other NPCs in the region first, so it’s a great stop to make first when you unlock Chenyu Vale.

Even if you’re just passing through Chenyu Vale to grind for ascension materials or hunt for geo sigils, taking five minutes to find where winds meet Chai Jiudui is well worth the small time investment. The primogems, artifact, and unique attack buff are all useful no matter what your playstyle is, and it’s one of those small, charming side stories that make exploring Liyue feel so alive and full of surprises. Next time you’re wandering the mountain peaks, keep an ear out for those wind chimes, and don’t forget to come back three days later for that special tea.
